Thesis: Chicana and Chicano Authors

Thesis: Chicana and Chicano Authors from El Paso, Texas.

In the Latin American Collection Nettie Lee Benson, I could consult first editions,
manuscripts, microfilms, interviews, newspaper articles, magazines and a large number of
books about each of the authors that I present in this work.
This research deals, before anything else, with the concept of “prejudiced”
linked to the life or American citizens of Mexican descent, as well as notions like
“decoloniality”, “interculturality”, and “linguistic tension” to focus our attention
on the characteristics that distinguish Chicano culture, beyond stereotypes. It also
offers a historical overview of the development of this community in the specific
area of El Paso, to progressively approach to Chicano literature and the mexicanity
behind the name of some Chicano publishers. Finally, an index of Chicano authors
born or based in El Paso is presented. In it, the life experiences of each author are
narrated and some of his literary works are described, according to the personal
way in which they are expressed, to the language, the themes and the literary
resources they use. Aware that many writers will not appear in the registry due to
lack of time, the sequential order is as follows: John Rechy, Abelardo Delgado,
Óscar “Zeta” Acosta, Estela Portillo Trambley, Arturo Islas, Ricardo Sánchez, Pat
Mora, Luis Arturo Ramos, Sergio Troncoso, Richard Yáñez y Elena Rodríguez.
